Are these accounts actually open??  If so, you don't need another CC.  That much credit can't be a good thing for someone that has filed BK before.

Yes they are open. I just wanted another card in my draw.

Re: Discover Denial due to Bankruptcy

You don't need another one IMO.  And most big banks will not approve you with that much credit especially while your BK shows.

What I learned from app'ing after BK is that thes CCC's don't want to see new accounts opened at same time.  I would suggest to either close a bunch of these accounts or let them sit for a year or two.

Re: Discover Denial due to Bankruptcy

I've thought about closing some of them, but not sure how to go about it since most are new, and I usually use store cards for points at their stores and then pif before the statement cuts so I don't have a balance reporting.  The ones with balances are the ones that I was kind of stupid and didn't care about util and balances, but now I do and need to pay them down.

Yes they are open. I just wanted another card in my draw.

Waynes, I will echo what others have said. Your denial is likely not because of the BK. This far out, you really shouldn't be having problems getting approved for virtually any product other than AMEX if you've properly rebuilt. I have a discover card. I got it 18 months or so after discharge. Your score should be in the 750s with a BK as old as yours provided you haven't defaulted or had any negatives since.

I think your problem is two fold. 1. Obviously, too many recent accounts. I think you seriously need to close half your GE cards, and possibly most of your store cards. You have some really old cards reporting, so I don't think you AAoA will suffer 10 years from now when these accounts (should you close them) start dropping off. You have to stop apping. Don't get cards just for getting them. You should only get cards you will use. I mean do you really need an old navy card or toys r us card?

2. Toy limits. Right now, you are mostly in Toy limit hell give or take a few cards. You should try to grow some of these cards, with soft pull CLIs.

Before you start closing cards, try to bump your available credit. Your best bets are capone eo and credit solutions backdoor number. With Capone, with your oldest cards ask for at least 5K each. You can see if they will be willing to combine two cards with the same open year. If this works, repeat in 6 months. When you call GE credit solutions, ask for an absurd amount relative to what you already have. At least 10-15K per call. Close the GE cards you don't need and will never use. Cos i'm sure you will hit your exposure cap with GE. Better to have 3 large cards, than spread it on 15 cards.

I offered some suggestions in red. Btw, some of your lowest limit cards are in the 50-80% util range. Those are quick fixes with a few hundred dollars. Once your balances are paid off, do your best to maintain your util under 5% with only one card with a balance when you are apping.

Good luck.

Certainly haven't defaulted on any of these accounts. I have a perfect payment history on them all. I'm waiting to hear from capitalone on the increased limits.  I asked for 1500 on 4 of the accounts. She said it would take 3-4 days from friday.  I keep checking to see if they've increased them.  I tried to call credit solutions and they wouldn't increase the limits, but I'm going to try calling again.  I think I got the wrong department.  Most of my denials I receive are due to ratio of balance to limit, too many recent accounts and too many inquiries.

Re: Discover Denial due to Bankruptcy

Wow - you have a lot of accounts -  Mine might be an unpopular opinion - But I can imagine that  1. being under 8 years post BK  2. having so many accounts 3. credit score - all factored into the denial -    I was approved AFTER 8 months of BK - and I was VERY shocked that I was to be honest -  my credit score was probably > 675 at the time - and I think I had 1 maybe 2  (but I doubt it was 2)  bank cards - and 4 GE cards all with at least a $3,000 CL.   Although I have not read it anywhere, I suspect that lots of CC accounts at some point looks very risky to lenders - especially with a BK showing.  This was one of the reasons why I closed all but 1 or 2 of my bank cards - by the time I was approved for Discover in 2011.

Are you using all of this credit?  At some point - you just do yourself damage with all of this apping -  Give your new credit time and opportunity to work for you.  You have a lot of low-limit accounts -  Not until you start proving you can handle higher-limit accounts - which comes with time and responsible accounts management -  will you be granted those limits.  Making proper use of credit - so that you can use it as a tool - is not about amassing more and more and more.  It is about being excellent with what you have - letting it work for you .. .. thereby demonstrating increasing credit worthiness.

Re: Discover Denial due to Bankruptcy

I'm sure it's a combo of reasons. The BK combined with all those accounts, new accounts, inquiries, 650ish FICO score.

I apped for discover with an 8yo BK also and was accepted. Discover was IIB. My scores were around 680ish then, only about 6 credit accounts. They have CLI me every 6 months or so as my scoers have improved.

I'd relax on new accounts. Maybe get rid of the junky ones. Try again 6-12 months.

Re: Discover Denial due to Bankruptcy

So I called ge for my care credit and my car care accounts and was just increased.

Care credit went from $1200 to $5000

Car Care went from $500 to $700

my other ge accounts through credit solutions won't increase at this time and will get a letter. so might consider closing them.
