Discover: Extra $250, appears targeted

Just an FYI, I received a note in the mail today from Discover informing me that if I spent at least $1500/mo on my More card during each billing cycle Nov '11 to Mar '12 I would receive an extra $250 bonus by my May '12 cycle.

We use Amex for about 95% of our purchases so don't see myself making this one.

I would think that would be fairly tempting to transition your spend until March.  You're getting 3.3% back over and above whatever the base rate you'd earn.  Which Amex are you putting most of your spend on?

At this very moment, I make use of an offer of an extra $75 for spending $500 per month for three months. Obviously, also a targeted offer.

So what's the target, I wonder? How much were you guys spending on the card before? Were you just using it for the 5% categories and/or Discover Mall merchants?

I only used the card for the 5% categories. When I hit the reward threshold, the card went into the sock drawer. They want me to use it for everything. Which, with the incentive, is a good idea. Not sure about afterwards, though.

I really haven't used the card much at all, which I believe is why they are giving me this incentive.  Our last purchase on the card was a new set of tires 3 months ago.
