Discover IT invitation?

Does anyone know they criteria they use to send these out.  I'm not going to app because I'm pretty positive I would get denied and I don't want the HP.  I can't even get a CLI on any card right now!!  I have too many store cards from the shopping cart trick.  2 unpaid medicals, 1 paid medical and 1 paid utility derogs on my reports and also a state tax lien.  My scores are between 600-630 apx. and about 12 inq's, some falling off this year.

Re: Discover IT invitation?

Follow your gut.  Plus they sometimes they double HP.  You want at least mid 600's to app with them but if you wait and shoot for 700 and rid your baddies in the meantime you'll get a worthwhile CL instead of a toy limit.

Re: Discover IT invitation?

I think by the end of this year I should be good to go.  I have my tax lady working on the old taxes so I can get that resolved.  Paying the OC for the 2 remaining unpaids then I'm going to work on getting them pulled back.  I have to file a complaint on the paid utility because the CA filed before they validated.  After those are handled I have no other baddies.

Trust me, you'll be glad you waited.  It took just about a year for me to get here from where you are.  It's hard to wait but it gets easier.  Repair, let INQ's drop, get UT down.  I had my sights set on bigger CL's and by being patient, it worked!

Re: Discover IT invitation?

I accepted way too many of the shopping cart store cards and now it's hurting me because I have "too many new accounts".   That's the hardest issue because I can't do anything about them.  The worst part is I don't need them!  I don't even shop at some of the stores.  So it majorly backfired.  They all have perfect payment histories and will all be aging to and past the one year mark this year.  Just have to let them grow.  Does any one know when an account steps down from the "new" status?

Re: Discover IT invitation?

Not sure...my wife has gotten 2 the past ~9mths and I've never gotten any. She app'd the first time and was denied. The second time (a few days ago) and was approved. I check online once in a while and never have offers, but felt like applying last night. The system messed up so I called this morning and app'd over the phone. The lady took the same info they do on the pre-qual site and told me they had an offer for me and read me the terms before asking me if I wanted to apply for that card. I guess you just never know. Both of us were approved instantly with mid to upper 600 scores. We aren't sure who they pulled yet though.

Learning from my past and rebuilding..

After 6 mos it doesn't hurt as bad.  Just keep the cards active (buy a pair of socks, or even a purchase/return will keep active) so you can hit that luv button.  You've got them so might as well use them the best you can for CLI's.  I have a few cards I'm sure I'll never use, and did exactly what you did in the begining, got too many!  But you have them, just be patient now. Smiley Happy

Re: Discover IT invitation?

No clue but my mom got a Discover card invite last year. As soon as she applied, she was denied...

As of 2017, rebuilding...
