Keep seeing all the success folks have had getting the new Discover it card so decided to go ahead and apply myself. Declined
Two calls now to Recon using listing in backdoor Numbers and could not get either rep to even discuss a how or why was declined and possible Recon. Both just stuck with the "you will receive a lettter in 7 days along with a free copy of your credit report.....you are welcome to try again in 30 days..."
Now I do have a BankRuptcy that was discharger in 1/07, but have worked hard at rebuilding since. In fact in 2/07 was financed for a new car and paid that loan off and was just approved for another a week ago at 2.5%. Have also acquired 4 cards since the BK (Credit One with 600 CL, Orchard with 1100 CL, Merrick with 2800 CL and Barclays with 3500 CL). Have always been on time with payments and in fact make large payments with two of the cards now sitting at a '0' balance for the past two months. Scores are not the best, but far from where they were after the BK which was mid 500's. Now at 681/Experian, 698/Equifax, 720 Transunion. Credit Karma Fakos are 693/750.
Really would have loved the IT card 18/18 no interest so could transfer some higher interest account balances over, but apparently Discover is not Recon friendly!
did you burn them in the bk?
the bk itself could possibly be hurting you.
you said you have gotten "new" accounts.
maybe your aaoa is too low? im not exactly sure. # of inq's?

No, they were not included in BK, never had Discover before. AAoA is 4.7 years have two inquiries showing with one about to drop off. Should say 'had' as checking this morning see the new car purchase added 3 inquiries on my Experian only. Odd thing is I see no inquiry from the Discover IT app from two days ago ???
Keep in mind that you might have not gotten the terms you wanted anyway, i was approved for the IT but did not get the 0% offer.
Also keep in mind that Discover is not bankruptcy friendly, I am sure that it played a big role in your denial.
Aye BK is a big deal to Discover (and several others). Discover as far as I can tell is indeed pickier sometimes than say Cap 1 or some of the others.
I'm 5 years post BK and was approved today for the IT card with a 1K limit. The minute I started talking to her I mentioned my BK but that the last 5 years I had been working hard on making sure my credit was clean. The BK itself really didn't seem to matter that much to her. You can clearly see on my credit report that I had been paying everything on time and never carried a balance really. I let $5.00 report every month on one of my cards. Maybe I just got lucky?
OK, so a bit of an update here.
Logged in to Credit Sesame today and showed the usual "we found the following pre-qualified offers for you". Difference is this time it was showing one as being the Discover IT card. Now knowing there is a big difference between 'pre-qualified' and 'pre-approved' I decided to jump over to Discovers site and utilize their pre-qualify form to see as in the past it has always said no offers were available for me. This time however it pops up with congratulations you are PRE-APPROVED !! with the following terms ... 12 months 0% Interest on Purchases and Balance Transfers, No AF and Generous cash Back Bonus. Right below sits the 'Apply Now' button. Having been down this road twice in the past (7/12 and 2/13) and denied the latest time even after two calls to the back-door number you can imagine my hesitancy at clicking that button, but I could not control myself and finally hit the button !
Any way filled out the short app and clicked submit and again 'Congratulations you have been approved' your new card will be sent out shortly. Then proceeded to take me through setting up an online account which I did, but am unable to login. States account setup is still in progress, please try again later. So seems I was approved, but no idea yet what my credit limit is. The reason I say 'seems' I was approved is because about 5 minutes later I received an email that starts off with ...
"Discover Card received your application on August 08, 2013. Please allow up to 30 days for your application to be processed".
Could anyone who has been approved online tell me is that just a standard email? If I was in fact approved, how long before I should watch for the card to arrive?
Congrats!!!!!
Ron.
Congrats!
