[ Edited ]

This was taken from another thread discussing this category

4/1/2013  -  6/20/2013 - Sign up to earn 5% Cashback Bonus on purchases made at clothing and home improvement stores 4/1/13 (or the date on which you sign up, whichever is later) through 6/30/13, subject to a cap of $1500 in purchases. Clothing stores are defined as stand-alone men’s, women’s and children’s clothing retailers. Home improvement stores are defined as home supply retail stores, lumber/building material stores, paint/wallpaper stores, hardware stores and lawn and garden supply centers. These purchases must post to your account by 6/30/13 and do not count towards determining your eligibility to earn 1%. Purchases made at warehouse clubs, wholesale distributors, and discount stores are not eligible. Purchases made using Near Field Communication (NFC) or similar technology may not be eligible. If a purchase is coded for a category other than those or discount stores are not eligible. If a purchase is coded for a category other than those listed above, it will not qualify. Rewards are added to your Cashback Bonus account within 2 billing periods. See Cashback Bonus Program Terms and Conditions for further details.

The jury is still out on whether clothing stores are included. You can contact a CSR about it. From what I read stores like Bed, Bath & Beyond, Annie Sez, The Container Store, Ace Hardware, etc would be included as well. That's just my interpretation.

Re: Discover It 5% category

I actually made mention to the Discover rep today during my CLI call, that this Home improvement category blows chunks for folks like me who just rent and don't own.  I was like, I would like the CLI now but don't expect much activity til June or July because I never shop at home improvement stores.  Gas stations?  yes.  Home Depot?  Nope.

She was like..."I know right".

She was pretty cool and down to earth. :smileyhappy:

A perk about the home improvement category though: Lowes and Home Depot sell reteail gift cards. :smileyhappy:

Oh snap!  (yes I brought that right back from 1991 for ya) I had not thought of that.

I must be old now.  I think I have probably bought less than 10 gift cards in my entire life.  I am the schmoe who stands at the Gift card display thing in awe because I can't believe how many there are.  lol

must consider this more. :smileyhappy:

Re: Discover It 5% category

Also Lowes (HD probably also) sells household stuff like cleaners, dish soap, sponges, mops, garbage bags etc so while not home improvement purchases it's at the qualifying store so I think it would count?    Not that I buy a ton of that stuff each month but every bit adds up.

Re: Discover It 5% category

Discover probably wont see any activity on my card after this month until the 3rd quarter. Do you guys think that would be a problem when I ask for a CLI in July because the card was opened in January.

All you renters(myself included), be creative with the home improvement category. Buy some houseplants, window treatments, lawn furniture, or storage solutions. Think outside of the box.
