@jpparker07 wrote:I created the post. The big news to me was a couple of things. One I was shocked that Discover It is now the one and only card with Discover. Also, I love the Discover customer service and was looking for an opportunity to make this an everyday card and I think the 1% makes that much more competitive with other every day cards (i.e. Chase Freedom which I also have).
I just called and converted. She told me you get everything you get with the More card plus the added bonuses of the IT card. The only thing they don't have yet is a student version and there's also no ZIP card yet. She said they are testing out new designs right now so if you don't like the current IT card design you will be able to switch to a new one when they launch them. She did say that there's a possibility of there being a ZIP IT card. I love Discover's customer service and this is why it's my primary use card.
The student version is listed on their website.
That's why I asked about the student version. My More is the student version so I asked the IT specialist if I would be switched to the student version of the IT card and she told me it's not available yet so she switched me to the regular IT card.
Discover has always been my favorite CCC because of their great customer service and okay rewards. Now that their rewards are on par with Freedom, I'M THRILLED.
This news makes me very happy that I closed my Freedom 2 weeks ago.
I'm calling to PC to IT as soon as I get home from my holiday travels. I don't want them to send a new card while I'm not home.
I just got off the phone with them. Product change was instant and painless - the rep spent the time it took the switch the card over telling me about all the benefits of the It - namely no late fee the first time, no penalty APRs, expanded window for payments etc. She asked me before she said anything what I knew about the card and I mentioned the 1% flat cash back - she confirmed (she said it starts on Sunday), then went over all of the late payment stuff. She did say the rewards program was "different" and that I'd be getting the new program information in the mail. Presumably, it's the 1% that's different and the 5% categories will be essentially unchanged. She never mentioned the 1% unprompted, although arguably it's not the biggest perk that the card offers.
She did give me a direct "It Cardmember" number, so it may come with more direct phone service (although this would be debatable if everyone switches over).
She did tell me that they were pushing It pretty hard as their "#1 card". When I told her that I could see no other cards but the It on the website, she said that she was unaware they weren't offering other cards anymore, verified that I was in CT, and said she would ask about it because she was curious herself.
I have been reading through this post and have a question. I like the 1% on everything. But the 22+ dollars over the year is not enough for me to switch it. I am waiting for my 1 year mark with my current discover more card in sept. 2013 and apply for the IT then. I have seen in a recent post that you have to wait a year to get a second card with them.
my question is this.. Is that a good plan and if approved for the IT card will discover combine the limits onto the IT to phase out the more card? Im trying to get to my first 5k limit this way. Thanks mike
You could ask them to PC and CLI to 5K.
The IT card has the same rewards program as the more card, exepct they have additional 1% back on each dollar spent. You can still sign up for the 5% quaterly deals the more card offers.
If they will extend the additional credit via a second card they should extend the credit to 1 card.
Rumor has it the more card is going away.
The IT card sounds great, but it makes you wonder why they didn't just get rid of the 0.25% for the first $3,000 spent requirement for the More card instead of make a seemingly identical card but with a 1% cashback to begin with.
And can anyone confirm that PC'ing from the More to the IT card will not result in a hard credit pull or an account number change (e.g. a new account)? I've had my More card since 1994 so I would hate to screw anything up just to get an extra $22 a year.
Got off chat with 2 different reps and they told me they can't send the It card until the statement closes. I am going on vacation and my statement closes while I'm away. I won't be switching now because I don't want my card laying around my porch.
How are you guys getting them to send the card before statement closes?

I was told the account number would not change and I was not informed that a credit pull would occur/there have been no pulls posted to my report in the time since I previously posted (USAA).

It is free advertising. The IT seems exciting and new, so we will all talk about it. That helps them compete with the Freedom without having to spend alot of money on commercials or mailers.

I have the IT and can verify this. They send it to you after the statement closes with the same card number.
