He got his first CLI at four months, and then another one four months after that. I was surprised, as I thought that this was pretty quick.
Were those auto CLIs or did he request them?
Those were auto. I logged into his account to check on balances (I manage for him with his explicit permission) and saw the increase; it was a nice surprise each time! ![]()
The increases were in $350 increments, so he went from $1000 -> $1350 -> $1700. Not huge, I'll grant you, but definitely forward progress. Who know? Maybe later this year he'll be up over $2000?

Free love is always nice
Plus the first cli was 35% and the second was over 25%, both not bad from a percentage analysis ![]()

Yes, I agree. It's also a matter of keeping things in perspective. Some folks on these forums get upset if they don't get a huge CL or a hefty increase. But, my DH and I are both in the rebuilding stage, so we look at things from the point of view of where we've been vs. where we are now.
Back in Feb of 2011, he didn't have a single open account in his name; he was an AU on an old FP card of mine -- 500 CL -- and I closed the card when they decided to add an AU fee on top of everything else. I had him app for a BBRZ MC since he does buy items from Best Buy from time to time, it was known to be a fairly easy approval and at least he could get something in rewards. He was approved for $300. He also got a Care Credit and, a couple of months later, a Lowe's.
When he got the offer in the mail for Discover, my initial reaction was that it was too good to be true given his limited history. But he decided to go for it and, much to our delight, he was approved for their alternative offer -- 3.9% introductory rate instead of 0% -- and a starting CL of $1000. This was now more than 3x the CL on his BBRZ MC, so he was quite pleased. And the cash back rewards have been wonderful! And now to see it growing... it really demonstrates good progress on his credit rebuild.
The point behind all of the above is that I think that it's important to look at the entire picture when deciding that a CLI of a particular size is good progress or not. I can tell you that we're both very happy and hope to continue on in a positive direction.
