He said Discover is not hurting the same as other cc issuers, so their customers aren't under the microscope as much. Their limits are extremely conservative as are cli's, but they don't care if their not the biggest, they just 'want to be the best' and keep their customers around for the long haul.
This is the typical baloney that I would expect from a CC representative. Anyone can say that, especially the part about "the best."
Their cashback system is by far not the best albeit decent enough to complement a main spending card.
Their 5% categories are nice although the limits are VERY low usually ($200 for groceries in March). THeir general tiered cashback is... ahmm... a joke... 1/4% for up to the first $3000 spent. And that does only include certain amounts. Discover is ALL about the fine print. If you forget to sign up for the 5% categories, then you're out of luck.
If you use the card so much that they have to send you a replacement by the first 6 months, you should get an auto CLI. I have received 4 auto CLIs in 3 years. I've never asked.
Discover is the BEST! You will be very very pleased. It seems like nowadays I can't tick them off. I've run $1000/mo. through it at times, transferred a $3k balance to it and paid it gradually, then paid it off and continued to run up the balance and pay it off. Their response to pretty much all of it is to throw bigger CLs at me. They are my highest CL card by $2K, and I've never asked for a single CLI.
I fall in the category of using my Discover card so much I had to be sent a replacement. I have had my card for 1 yr now and still no CLI. I have requested and been denied. I am about to sock drawer it. I travel alot and put heavy usage through the card and always pay off the balance or if not PIF atleast 80% paid off and no love. Still stuck at my 2k limit.
I can tell you from personal experience, yes, they love usage and are more inclined to give you an increase. I've redeemed cash back bonus' 4 times for statement credits and 3 of those 4 did they reward me with a CLI.
Just got approved for the discover More Card with a CL of $6300. Hope is worth it.
Does the money expire for the cashback bonus? I'm asking because I only have $19.
No, it doesn't expire, but you need to spend more!

Haha, true. It is not my go to card. I think I only got it because I used to have Discover in college and remembered them being wonderful. That, and they had 5% off of theme parks last quarter and I knew I was heading down to Disney/Harry Potter.
Doh! Didn't realize this thread was 3 years old!
