Re: Discover

I'm not here often enough that my opinion should count, but I have to agree with the others.  Don't close your Discover account because you weren't satisfied with the CLI - they actually gave you a huge increase based on your profile - it's not personal, it's just business.  Closing it would take away all your hard work toward obtaining it, and any future business relationship with them, not to mention a great tradeline on your profile.  Let the card grow, even if your other cards are exceeding what you expected from Discover.  Lastly, as disappointed as you might be now, in time, you might look back on this as just another mild disappointment and be grateful you still have the card (and the great US-based CS that comes with it).  JMO, for what it's worth.  And I say this from someone who doesn't always get what I want and it's easy to pout, but I understand the business end on their part.

Everyone's opinion should count. Should that person care what we have to say? up to them. Personally, if you're angry enough to close an account after doing a HP and not getting the amount you want then go for it. Close it. See how far that gets you to your CL that you want. Smiley Wink

Closing your card is obviously your decision.
Assuming other lenders will not offer $20k+ cl or cli's - will you close them too?

+1.

It's entirely up to you whether you want to keep those accounts open or closed. There's no right or wrong answer.

Since your main priority is high CLs, why not go with CUs instead?

CU's also have way better rates.

Barclays US Air $17K| TTCU $15K| Citi Diamond $10.5K| Discover IT $9000| CapOne $2K| Best Buy $2K

Re: Discover

Your FICO Scores are good and according to many FAKO providers you would be in a low risk category of around 2%. As you know income, performance, AoA, Oldest Account and sometimes number of inquiries can affect a CLI request at a certain point in time. Often I have read given a little time after the denial a re-request can be siccessful aong with a recon if needed. Wish you the best in your decision process. I have tried over the years to figure out my lendors and their methods for extending credit and CLIs. I throw in the sponge as it baffles me.

Re: Discover

Wow. I would love to just have a Discover Card with a $100 CL, just to get in with themSmiley Sad I can't try to apply with them for at least a few years, and maybe 10!! When my bk falls off the reports! You're damn lucky to get that starting CL!! In a year with good usage in the acct, it would be waayyyyy higher! But, if you're already with the HP, and giving up the card, that's your decision. Btw.... They will laugh in your face if you ask them to recode the hard pull after all thatSmiley Happy

Re: Discover

Why would a bank give you more credit if your not going to use it. The trick to getting CLIs is to have a balance on a card, become a revolver and pay it off over time. Most companies like to see 50% UTL on initial purchases and paid off over time. This is how we make money. We borrow money at the prime and lend it for a profit. You will have a very hard time getting increases if you are a transactor every month and never leave a balance. Don't believe me?? Try it, I'm a credit analyst for a major credit card and not really supposed to be sharing this info but whatever.
