Disgusted with HSBC

I just called them to see if they can give me a CLI without pulling my credit--based solely on my history with their company, blah blah blah.... I told them I needed it to make a home repair and I need a larger increase. My current limit is $750 (been that way since I've been with them for 2 years) and I only asked for an additional $500.

Well they promised not to pull my credit, ran it through the system, and I was denied.  The reason they said no is because I never utilized all of my credit I already have with them. My balance is currently $0 but I am pretty sure it was $749 at one point (way before I found these boards).

This doesn't make sense to me. I am frustrated with them. So do they want me to run up my balance and then call to ask for more money?  I really want the CLI to simply bring down my util which is at 45% right now but I don't have the extra cash to pay down some of my balances.

Should I try contacting some of the companys I have balances with to see if they can do a CLI and leave the cards alone that have $0 balances?

Re: Disgusted with HSBC

Do not expect HSBC to ever make any sense.I've been with them since '03 and had to beg for 2 increases, years apart.  They will never upgrade me. I can't wait to lose them.
What are your scores and other accts?

Re: Disgusted with HSBC

I am curious as to which type of card that you have with HSBC.  I just received a 1000 dollar CLI from them recently.  Now mind you, I have a Cash or Fly MC that I received just last summer with an initial limit of 750 dollars and the limit is at 2350 dollars right now (with a little over 50% utilization).  They give CLI's roughly ever 6 months.  But you have to put the card to work.

Re: Disgusted with HSBC

cliccmade is onto something there.

Since you have no balance, you really have nothing to lose by closing your card. (Yes, we all know closing a card isn't the best thing to do for your FICO score, but they don't know that.) Therefore, if you threaten to close your card, they'll believe you and probably give you that CLI.

Don't bluff unless you are truly willing to close the card.  Especially with HSBC - most of the time, they DO NOT fall for bluffs.

Re: Disgusted with HSBC

I have to agree with the below in theory.  I received my HSBC card in March. Charged up $742 and PIF.  Next bill cycle I had a $300 CLI.  Not as much as the below, however all I did was charge it up and pay it off.

Re: Disgusted with HSBC

mo. 17 of 2 orchards (whopping 300 CL).  have used the cards every mo- even took them near the CL several times.  clis so far?  0, nada, zilch, zip.  called orchard about 2-3 wks ago- was told 'we constantly review CLs, you never know, may log in 1 day and see, bam, cli.'  uh huh, right.  sadly, orchard gets a break from the chopping block as i have to fire a cc lower than orchard (first premier) first.

things i've heard about hsbc/orchard- not sure if they app to any1 here, but it's what i've heard and i tend to believe it's true.

if you've ever burned hsbc, you will NOT get a cli.  time for cli lockdown varies- some say you're on a CLI 'blacklist' for forever (10+ yrs), but others say the CLI 'blacklist' only lasts for 18 mos.  we'll see.  i've burned hsbc 2x (still on my reports for another 2 yrs), but given my lack of CLIs, i tend to believe i'm on a CLI blacklist.

CLIS may be a hard pull and you MAY be declined.  orchard told me i could 'ask' for a CLI, but it WOULD be a hard, NO guaranteed approval, i'd have to pay $15-25 just to be considered for a CLI, AND it would likely only be 100-200.  needless to say, i passed up that *sparkling* offer.

orchard did its job, but like first premier, it's time to go bye bye bye soon.  sheesh, even cap 1 (who i burned long ago) put me in credit steps which will up my CL to 500 by mo. 3 and even BA (who i burned long ago) gave me a 99/500 cc.

from my experience, orchard/hsbc are a little bit like amex if you burn them.
