Re: Double Cash Odditiy

Buying a gift card from Amex doesn't necessarily have anything whatsoever to do with MS.  Give the OP the benefit of the doubt if you don't know what the gift card was for.  Otherwise this is just a witch hunt.

I thought we were agreeing to disagree.

Can we get back on topic now?

With regard to the topic, I'm not altogether suprised Citi isn't giving full credit for these purchases. Plenty of merchants are moving to not accept CC's for gift card purchases, and some issuers are not giving rewards on those purchases anymore. It's a natural movement that Citi may be trying to avoid giving the full 2% on "these" purchases.

Re: Double Cash Odditiy

Before we get back to discussion....

1. Please remember that one way of being "supportive" is to stay on-topic.   You don't have to agree with the topic, but you may discuss it respecfully.  Comments that were not on-topic have been excluded from this thread.

2. The topic of this particular thread was an issue with cash-back rewards for certain purchases.   This information appears to be presented as "informational-only" and not as an advocation/promotion of particular activity

3. Advocation/promotion of MS or any other activity that would cause someone to violate their CC's T&Cs is not an appropriate topic for the forum.

Now, carry on...

In fairness, it's hard to read tongue-in-cheek replies. Smiley Happy I see where you're coming from, though.

I think the FSR rule just means treat people as you would want to be treated.. you don't have to support any ideals that you don't want to but what one has to do is be respectful and don't act like a fool on a public forum. (This is to everyone...)

Re: Double Cash Odditiy

Wow, just looked at the forum and saw this thread had exploded.  In more ways than one.

Just to be clear :  I actually had no agenda, I was relating what someone else had posted, just finding it funny that a card that pays you twice sometimes pays you once (when arguably it shouldn't pay at all, as stated in my first post).

Personalyl, I never use the DC for this sort of thing, as Citi has a reputation in this space.   Other cards fit my needs better!

While likely true, this fails on the "supportive," part of Friendly, Respectful and Supportive mantra of the forum!

I'm not sure what kind of support OP is seeking. However, I doubt supportive means always agreeing with the OP's statement or intent. I mean, clearly, advocating for earning more rewards from cash-equivalents, or MS, would not be within the rules.

I'm not actually sure LTL was seeking "support"...I think he just wanted to provide information.   Certainly, many lenders don't give rewards to cash-equivalents.

Yes, we had to edit out some off-topic material.   But I think we're back on topic now.

Re: Double Cash Odditiy

While I know nothing about computer programming, you'd think the issuers can easily code cashlike purchases to earn 0 points.

I've noticed BofA has a system where these kinds of purchases are correctly identified and earn 0 rewards.  They charge a "cash advance fee," then credit the same amount as a "pseudo cash advance" credit.  Rewards aren't earned (at least, I don't think), and a minimum $1.50 is charged, per the T&C agreement.

If BofA can do think, I can't see why Citi and everyone else can't implement something similar, unless they choose not to, for whatever reason.
