EXPRESS: Hard or soft?

[ Edited ]

I just registered my Express Rewards account (just the store rewards card, not the credit card) onilne, and it informed me that I'm pre-approved for the credit card.

I clicked to read more, and the next page is titled "THE EXPRESS NEXT CREDIT CARD APPLICATION," but it only asks for the last four digits of my SSN and my birthdate.

Any idea whether this will be a hard or soft pull? I'm happy to press the apply button if soft, and I've read you guys talking about the "shopping cart trick," but I don't quite understand what that is.

Re: EXPRESS: Hard or soft?

I did the shopping cart trick with Victoria Secret and Walmart.

Both were pre-approvals through their shopping cart and both were soft pulls. Although based on what I have read here, walmart may have been a fluke.
