Re: Ending ZYNC seems very expensive for American Express

If they really wanted to snag the young professional demo, the card would be something like this. Points redeemible 1/1 on airlines.

.75 points on everything.

1.5 local entertainment, drinks restraunts, tickets, ect. Local meaning near your billing adress or home airport. Possibly same state.

2. Travel expenses such as airline tickets, rental car, hotel stays ect.

3 points nonlocal entertainement. Same as above but not in home area or state.

I mean reward me for being traveling and drinking.

Sounds good to me! It's probably less expensive to keep existing members than woo new ones.

Mercedes Amex anyone?  5x on MB purchase, 3x on gas, 2x on dining/bars and 1x on everything else...

+1 but wish these levels were on the Platinum co branded card with 50,000 MR for new card bonus. Would be worth the higher AF for the larger point categories.

How is the change from ZYNC, to Green going to work? Anyone know?

Re: Ending ZYNC seems very expensive for American Express

The Zync wasn't likely making the returns they had originally hoped for several reasons. Originally it was targeted at a younger demographic who were just out of college, but with the recession most people in their 20s have severely depressed spending power due to employment, student loans, etc. This depressed spending power eventually led to a decrease in the amount of money they could push through the Zync, which as a charge card still operates on a spend-centric model. There are also additional costs to maintain a separate rewards program, CSRs trained in the Zync product, etc. The legal issues about using age as a determining factor for approval was icing on the cake, and probably hastened a decision that was coming eventually anyways.
