We recently came into some money and I am setting out to settle out our remaining credit card debt. I have two accounts in particular that I'd like some advice on. One is Discover, the other is Bank of America. Both were closed at my request in 2005, and both have large outstanding balances. Both have had the monthly minimum paid on time every month since.
Yeah, I know, I'm their dream customer... :-(
So, anyway, I was wondering if anyone has any recent experience in getting companies to settle for less than the full amount, and if so, what should I be asking for when I call. It's not in the typical "pay for delete" category, but if I can get away with paying less than owed, I'd probably be happy to take that hit.
Don't have current scores handy, last time I looked I was in the 670/710 range, between all three.
