Re: Fate of the Unicorn

Isn't the only difference between the Green and Zync the ability to use points for travel ??? Personally I don't care for that. 95 dollar annual fee not worth it on the Green. I pay that same annual fee on the CSP and I get more bang for my buck, IMO

In my wallet: Amex Platinum NPSL, Amex Everyday Preferred $15,000, Amex Starwood $10,000, Chase Freedom Visa Signature $10,000, Chase Sapphire Preferred Visa Signature $15,000, Chase Ink Plus Visa Signature $5000 Barclaycard Arrival Plus MasterCard World Elite $10,000, Cap One Quicksilver MasterCard $6000, Citi Prestige World Elite MasterCard $10,000, Citi Forward Visa $6900, Citi Premier World Elite MasterCard $5,800, Discover IT $8500

Yes, that's the only difference.

In my view, the *only* reason to have the Green is for those who have tons of MR points accrued (or, need the dynamic purchasing power of an Amex charge), and need to use them for transfers.  Otherwise, other charge cards are better; or, the no fee Blues for MR Express.

You're right, for $95, the CSP is a better value in every aspect, except for the unique purchasing characteristics of the Amex charge.

Re: Fate of the Unicorn

I agree about the dynamic purchasing power of the charge cards, that's why I will happily pay 25 bucks a year to keep the Zync. The only other Amex I wanted was the BCE which I just acquired a couple days ago. Personally, I can't justify the more expensive charge cards, altho many here get value out of them

Re: Fate of the Unicorn

Right, if one didn't need to transfer miles and wanted the NPSL, Zync is a great deal.  Personally, I would prefer paying the $25 fee to have NPSL than having the Blue.  There are many times when NPSL is much more expedient to use than static revolving lines.

Re: Fate of the Unicorn

I completely agree. I'll admit I also wanted the Zync since the charge cards are easier to acquire than their revolvers, and at the time the packs were attractive to me. Having said that, it was always my intent to eventually carry both cards, I also like the flexibility of a charge card

Re: Fate of the Unicorn

Plan on keeping mine for now. Hoping to have either freedom or SW RR to zero by May when packs are done for good for daily use. Unicorn probably won't see much action after that. It will be tough to shake the habit of using it for everything, but rewards are brutal, and most travel is done through Southwest. If anything I'll app for BCE/BCP in the near future. I plan on PIF once I slay this debt dragon anyway!

Re: Fate of the Unicorn

Im trying to convince myself to keep it. I want the PRG bad and if I can PC it with no HP plus backdating it may be benificial to me to stay in the garden!
