Finally Pulling the Trigger: Closing Citi Dividend and Chase Freedom

Just tried for a CLI with both of these cards today and was told no. Citi CL is 1200 and Chase is 1500. Just did a balance transfer over to Discover for the 900 balance on the citi card. Just paid off the $14 balance on the freedom. After having both of these cards for 3 years and no increase I see no reason to keep them around.

Starting Score:TransUnion: 698 (12 FEB 2010), Equifax: 674 (12 FEB 2010)

Have you tried asking for a CLI on your citi? They'll tell you if it's a SP (the new form online will). And as for the Freedom I'd bet if you used and paid on time that you have a pretty decent internal score with Chase...if you app for another card you can transfer some of that new limit. Both are good cards IMO, just figured I'd ask before you closed them out

Good move. No reason to keep a card open that you have no interest in using any more. I'm sure your other cards will be just fine with the increased spending on them.

Have you tried calling both Citi and Chase to find out why your requests are being denied?  I haven't dealt much with Chase, other than having their cards but the do like to see activity on their cards.  Citi on the other hand....I always call in for a CLI and have had really good experiences.  Give them a call and find out what's up.

I notice in your siggy that your scores have actually gone down from your starting scores.  I know chase routinely sps my EX.  They may being seeing something they don't like on your reports
