Fingerhut is definitely not a new product; it's a mail/online company where you can order various things...very slow to give CLIs (I don't believe you can ask for one, either; but I'm not sure). I have a Fingerhut account that was opened in 2004 with a starting CL of $225, and as of today, it's over $2,000. I would close it, but it's my oldest reporting TL.
Edited to add: They do report to the CBs...in case you're wondering.
They only report to EQ / TU. Not EX.
I would have kept them but I felt like they were holding my credit report down to prime lenders.
Thanks for the info, LS; I knew they reported, but I wasn't sure if it was all three...
I axed Fingerhut as well. Nothing I really wanted and credit has improved enough that I dont think I need them. Now I have to make sure they report all the information correctly. Don't see any point in keeping an account active if I don't use/need it.
Look out Credit One. You are next on the chopping block.
It wasn't open that long but I hope the positive history remaines on a report or two.
I hate fingerhut. I've been preselected for their offers and they've sent me their catalog several times now. I was afraid I would have to start rebuilding my credit with them. Just the prices they charge for stuff plus the interest rates are crazy! Especially when you consider that most of their customers can't afford to pay more than everyone else for the same thing...
I would've been thrilled to give them the ax myself.

Feels so good!!!
You couldn't get me to admit to owning a Fingerhut card

A good friend of mine has a fingerhut card, it's her first after a long span of troubled credit. Her reasoning is that she could buy things she actually needed and even though the prices were higher at least she didn't have to send in $300 to secure it before she could use it. Honestly that would have been my next stop too as I really didn't want to go the secured card route. Doesn't stop me from wincing at the name though.. lol

Well, none of us own a card. (they just use our acct # when ordering).
I have a FH too, and it's old, and it's only 600, and I never use it. So my plan is to just wait til they close me out.
LS: What do you mean when you say "make way" for the better cards? Can you explain how closing this is going to help that goal? (My goal too, but I'm confused how this will help). Thanks in advance.
ETA: I actually have TWO FH accounts that are reporting as they sold/transferred a while back. One open, one closed.

Ah, see I've never owned one, so didn't know there wasn't a physical card. Friend called it a card, but, must just be an account.. I make the same mistake with Smart Connect all the time. Ours is linked to paypal debit, so I forget that smart connect doesn't actually have a card and the card we're using is just paypal debit.

I'm assuming using Fingerhut is better than going to those rent to own places...like rent a center or aarons?
