First Amex Bill and CLI Question

I just opened two Amex accounts on 2/24 and I didn't know when they would be reported.  I wanted to pay in full before the statement cut but I wasn't sure about the date so I waited.  My ED card statement cut on 3/19 and the bill is due on 4/14 and my balance is 1447 out CL of 5K.  It looks like the next stmt will cut on 4/19 so once I pay the balance I should be ok when the statement cuts.  Now my question is since I had a high balance on my first stmt is this going to affect me when I request a CLI on day 61?

It will affect your CLI request only if you don't pay anything.

Re: First Amex Bill and CLI Question

For my DW cards it say online when they will close. Below 'recent charges' it say 'Since Mar 08 (Closing date Mar 29)'

I noticed this after! I always checked from my cell phone and the mobile app doesn't show the closing date.

Hopefully I can get the 3x CLI on day 61.  Amex has been soft pulling my reports like crazy.  I don't get why.  It's a bit scary.

Re: First Amex Bill and CLI Question

Also, you no longer have to wait until 61 days to get a CLI.  Whenever you are ready just go for it.

Re: First Amex Bill and CLI Question

No need to wait 61 days anymore. It's been documented a lot here lately. I requested mine when I activated my card. $4.5k --> $13k. I'm a stickler for whole numbers so I didn't ask for the full $13.5k. Mind you my score had dropped 10 points from when I had applied to when I requested the CLI. However, as always YMMV.

I know but I'm not ready for it especially since I had a statement hit with a balance.  I rather wait till I pay in full, have a stmt with a zero balance then request it.  Plus a rep told me you don't have to wait 61 days but it is highly recommended.

Re: First Amex Bill and CLI Question

I would wait the 61 days and show a good payment history. That worked for me and I got a 3x increase last week. You can have a balance . I had a several hundred dollar balance from one charge, but was making payments every week to 10 days and my last statement shows a 0 balance and my first statement reported a $400 balance on a $5000 limit.
