Physical cards are not going to be completely obsolete anytime soon. Not everyone has/wants a smartphone. Especially the older crowd. Do you see them using Apple Pay? No, they're not going to. Companies will offer a choice for years to come. Same as mail/email, books/ebooks, etc. Neither has replaced the other 100% and both have coexisted for years.
Anyway, back to the topic here...I think it's pretty crazy but I guess if you really really wanted a metal card, you'd buy it, but as others said, with chip impending in the US it seems like a waste at this point
