i recently sent a secure message to chase asking them if it was possible to switch my freedom from a visa to MasterCard. The school I'm attending doesn't take visa and I want to put tuition on my card for the points since Im paying cash anyway. I got a response that said you with either receive the card in the mail or a denial letter will be sent. I logged in tonight and see an extra account listed for a freedom, I'm assuming this is the switch, my question is there is a new account number. Did I just open a new account? will it appear as just opened on my cr with a brand new trade line? This was not was I was hoping for, I've been in the garden since may. Grrrr

Hey Jake0215!
It will be a new account number because mastercard cards are identified by the first 4 numbers of the card starting with a "5".
However, the account won't be listed as a new account on your CR. It will just show a new account number with the same age.
Hope this helps. ![]()

LOL, I think we were in the same mindset. About an hour ago I sent an email via the message board to see if I could switch my Amazon Visa to the Freedom Mastercard since I also have the Freedom Visa. I was told to allow 10-14 business days and that she forwarded my request to an escalation specialist (whatever that is). I too am worried that I might lose history if they do it. Now I wait.

I just want a Mastercard that does not involve opening another brandnew tradeline. The only Mastercard I have is the Cap one/HSBC mastercard and with a very low limit and it is worthless. My others are Visas ;(
