Unfortunately it will report when the upgrade occurred. And I notice GE is doing this for all their cards when a new number is issued. I just recently lost my Wally Discover and the card is now reading the old card number as closed 6/2012 and old card as opened 6/12. USAA credit monitoring even pinged me as "potentially negative". It's really annoying and I cant get a CSR or manager to fix it. I just gave up because I haven't seen any ding in my credit score yet.
