Re: Garden Club - May 2015

It may have crossed some lines for some people. I'm honestly amazed that it was unlocked at all, as a new one will open tomorrow.

I'm not sure I agree with the minority one. Different cultures have different stigmas about credit. It stands to reason that those who are from a cash-based culture woudln't use credit, and thus would be harmed by credit scoring when it comes time to get a mortgage. Similarly, some minorities are more impoverished than others. Those who are impoverished either can't get credit or get the very high rates, and thus blow through interest or declare bankruptcy. While there is no direct racial component to FICO, the socioeconomic ties probably do adversely affect minorities.

i work (my own business) in a mixed culture neighborhood.  Some small business owners are up to speed, even have Amex revolvers.  Many folks in my building don't give a hoot about credit though.  Education is key, neighborhood is trying that.  I was able to build from mid 500's (who knows what the score was in 2009) to lower/mid tier 700's within a year.  If I can do it with my income, so can others.  Just sayin'.  With mixed diversity, comes mixed credit scores.  There is also a small faction with excellent credit, but don't value purchasing and acquiring cards.

Decided that since my QS didn't come in the mail today, I'd chat and confirm it was on it's way and...it wasn't.

I PC'd and got CLI through EO about 10 days ago. A couple days ago the  website shows a pic of the QS, rather than platinum, but still says platinum. Chat confirmed that no new card had been ordered (and ordered them), said I should be getting QS benefits now, and said that it might always say platinum. Seriously?

If you have the phone number for EO, then call and verify it's a siggy.  My quicksilver says platinum.

There is some validity to what you are saying, but there is also some validity to Petrovious' point.  There are certain cultures that take (for a variety of reasons) a dim view of credit/lending.  These cultural viewpoints are more prevelant in some ethnic groups, but by no means limited to them.

I have read/heard people refer to credit as evil, as though it were a living breathing thing that has a thought process and intent.  Some of these comments have come from people who otherwise seem fairly knowledgeable.
