Still hanging tight since March 6th. Soon I will be trying for AMEX again. I couldn't get one in 2012, hope I can get one this year for future backdating. FICO steadily over 700 4 months now.

Psychologically paople measure themselves against any number of criteria. For that matter, credit card applications may well be akin to gambling from the endorphin rush which is generated.
Then you have this forum which really doesn't do anyone any favors in that regard: it's awfully challenging sometimes to get distracted by the glitter of seeing people approved for this, that, and the other, and it's basic human nature to read what's posted and judge your own profile against it. I've had a number of times of thinking, "Hey, these folks are qualified for this, why can't I get it?"
I'm probably one of the more resistenant folks on this forum when it comes to ignoring others; however, even broke down in I think September last year, where I simply thre up the Hail Mary and apped for the Amex Zync after seeing report after report on aprovals and realizing it didn't make much sense to wait till October as originally planned... lucky as the Unicorn was discontinued shortly after.
It's a pretty pernicious thing, and really goes against how we were all raised, least from my own childhood, I do better looking at credit from the perspective of when I was 7 or so where everything was if I do this I'll get punished, rather than high school where if I did something it was viewed from what can I get from doing so. Old vs. New testmament parallels too if you want to stretch it like that.
Add into modern society's instant gratfification culture, and really CC apps fufill that pretty neatly too.
It may not even be unreasonable to label it as an addiction even. Not sure on that one, this whole post is kinda stream of conciousness anyway
This post is spot on in so many ways. And the point about endophins and gambling is especially salient. Psychologists have pointed out the power of intermittent rewards. They are a stronger motivator than rewards that come in a predictable manner. Studies in rats show that intermittent rewards light up the pleasure center of the brain and that these rats will ignore other forms of pleasure in favor of working towards rewards that might come, but are not guaranteed. In gambling terms, slot machines are a good example; in credit seeking terms, there's a great deal of similarity to that submit button.
It helps to be mindful of this so that one can evaluate one's credit situation and decide upon the best course of action. Is it really a good time to app, or is one simply looking for the endorphin rush associated with an intermittent reward? Taking the time to look at the situation rationally may be able to cool one down from apping when it isn't wise to do so.

About another hour on the ribs here. I got this ginormous rack from Costco and I'm kinda scared thinking about what a monster hog these could have come from. Also getting baked apples ready, mac and cheese, corn bread and veggie kebabs.
I made ribs, boston baked beans (from scratch, not from a can), macaroni salad, corn bread, corn on the cob and homemade apple pie. We had a wonderful dinner, and I hope that yours was the same.

I do agree that this forum has a fantastic rapport between members. I found several credit boards all about the same time when I first started rebuilding after bk, but this is the board I've stuck with. Some of the others are just downright nasty.
Indeed. This is an incredibly warm and supportive group. Thanks to everyone for making it so!
Late night post, and I hope you guys had a great 4th!
I will be picking up my bronze spade tomorrow ...Wooo Hooo
