Getting the prepaid Amex card any suggestions?

Does anyone have any idea as to what is the likelihood of getting offered a american express credit card if you have an amex prepaid. I got an offer from them in 12/2010 for the costco card but got denied. Really would like the bluecash card any suggestions

Re: Getting the prepaid Amex card any suggestions?

The "Make Your Move" portion of the prepaid product, which is the component that may lead to an offer for a conventional charge product, is too new for anyone to have any idea.  I believe the minimum period of time you must have the prepaid card for them to consider you under MYM is 6 months.  Given that MYM was only introduced about two months ago, nobody's there yet.

It's really hard to predict.   Also, you might consider trying for a Charge Card first, before you app for a revolving card.

What were the denial reasons they gave you previously ?   Do you have any negatives on your CRs ?

I am skeptical about how much the prepaid card will help anyone. You still have to apply and still will get a hard pull. The best bet is to get your credit in order by gardening for those six months and building your credit, not using a prepaid card.

+1. I highly doubt having a prepaid will help with getting anything else. Your best bet is to either garden, or try for a charge card first.

The card does not report to any of the CRA, so I agree with you. I would be totally skeptical of this card myself. However, it does state in the FAQ that this is builds a relationship with AmEx

That said, here's what I found in the FAQ section:

Using the American Express Prepaid Card does not impact your credit score. With Make Your Move, you will be building a history with American Express, but no information will be passed to the credit bureaus and your credit score will not be impacted. Make Your Move and using your Prepaid Card will not re-build or affect a poor credit history. However, if you apply for an American Express Charge Card, American Express will check your credit history with the credit bureaus as part of the application process. Please note, an application for the Charge Card does not guarantee approval.
