Re: Got an itch today... and AMEX didn't scratch it.

Thanks. I'm so inspired by what I  see and read here. Without sounding corny. "I want to be like many of you when I grow-up".

As I stated earlier, I pulled the trigger too soon. I also made the  mistake of applying and getting approved, for the Matrix card. I now know its not the best and I'm not sure how or if I should get rid of it. UGH!

(UPDATE): Got an itch today... and AMEX didn't scratch it.

Ok... so I couldn't wait for the letter.....

I called to find out the reason.(... Like I didn't have an idea)  and I spoke to a CSR who said.. "Your score, which was pull through Experian was too low at 629"

After some of the replies from my posting, I realize that score is WAY too low and trying later is a better option.  Thought I would share the news.

Thanks for all the great input.

Hi I wasn't approved. I used  the AMEX  link/site  to see if I had any offers.

Can you provide the link? The Amex pre approval site has been missing for a few months.

This score is actually quite close for the approval range for a charge card.  Though, keep in mind the score may be less meaningful to Amex than other lenders.

Official AMEX denial Letter : Got an itch today... and AMEX didn't scratch it.

UPDATE( Hopefully this will be helpful to others)

The official letter came in yesterday and the information stated as follows:

Thank you for your recent application for SPG credit card from American Express(etc, etc)

Reason for our Decision:

  • Your FICO score(see below)

We obtained your FICO score from Experian and used it in making our credit decision( etc, etc) In March 24, 2013. Your score was 626. The following are the key factors that contributed to your FICO score

  • Proportion of revolving balances to revolving credit to high- I'm an authorized user on two of the higher utilized cards, i.e. Sears and First Premier. My personal cards have a  total utilization of about 15%.

  • Lack of recent installment loan information- How bad is this?

  • Length of time accounts have been established( oldest reported is the AU Sears account @ 22years- overall under 2 years- although credit karma states 4+)

I do have a few questions.

  • I realized that I went for the big guns with the SPG, but what could have been the outcome on a "lesser" Amex card with that score.( If their is such a thing)

  • Should I recon- for a diffrent card?( I already think I know the answer- just hardheaded and need to see it in writingSmiley Happy

  • Should I remove myself as a AU on any of the cards listed?

Well their you have it.

As always thanks!
