I recently finally got approved for an AmEx Platinum Delta Skymiles and if that wasn't exciting enough, I started reading about how loose they are with backdating. I thought I remembered seeing an AmEx on my credit report, though I've never phiscally had any AmEx, nor do I ever remember even apping for one, but it was on there saying open date of Dec 2006 and no balance ever carried. I'm thinking it was one where I caved at one point when I was young and dumb while I was at a football game when it was cold and there was a stand pushing apps for a free blanket.......I app'd, got the blanket, and immediately closed it. I didn't even realize it was an AmEx at the time, but that's the only thing I can think of. Regardless, it has always shown up on my credit report, never as a negative, never with a balance, and a tiny CL, so why report it as inaccurate, right? Anyway, I chatted with an AmEx rep and asked that they update my "Member since" date from 2015 to 2006. She couldn't find where I'd ever had a card. I asked her to check again, she still couldn't find it. I said that it was on my report and clearly said AmEx, so she said that she'd escalate it for further review. The next day I get an email saying they had issued my new card per my request. I don't even have the 1st card yet, so I logged into the website as I was curious if they'd complied with my backdate request and there it was. Member since 2006 at the top of the page! Gotta love it!
