I remember getting AA back in 2008 and balanced chased. I was leaving Las Vegas and trying to buy gas. I'd had over $3k available on my card and it was declined at the pump. I went in the store and tried again for a specific amount and was still declined. I called and they told me the reason was risky behavior, because I had used my card in Las Vegas. The cash advance I took got their attention.

There is always something specific that bugs certain lenders, for example with Amex it's paypal, Chase it's casinos.
Please explain.

That's weird I use my amex with paypal and never had any issue, although it isn't a frequent thing.

I SURVIVED!!! I called in, spoke to SR LENDING RISK Rep -- she put me on hold to complete her review. She came back after 10 min and said she SPed my EXP, saw great payment history, asked about my TON OF INQs and said no problem, she cleared my account, opened ti back up and said I should be good "for some time" although accts can undergo periodic reviews. She noted my excellent payment history with chase, and my card is now ACTIVE!!!!
Like I said, it depends who you get -- she was super nice. Then transfered me to Fraud to clear the OTHER hold from the Cash advnaces lol. Used it just now, we are golden !!
CHASE Lending CAN be beat! WOOOOOOOOOO!!!! She said great credit history, and that was it -- apparently these account reviews are like AMEX FR -- she said based on them they either CLD you, close you or no action.
I'm glad everything worked out for you.
@CreditCuriousity wrote:Cash advances and Casinos are a bad mix IMO.. Mix a bit of Booze and what not into the equation and a person can get in over their head pretty quickly is how a lender most likely see's it. They are probably wondering why does this person use his CC vs. ATM card, is he drunk and not have the cash to cover it or is the house winning and taking all his/our money? I have done cash advances in Casinos back before I knew better about credit and cared about my credit with Cap1 and never had an issue, although it did cost me a ton in fees along with wait for this... Overspending ..
Glad it all worked out though.. I would use my CC being Chase/Amex/Etc at restaurants / club at a casino, but never a cash advance as that is a huge red flag for the majority of lenders and they will freeze that account pretty dang quickly depending on many factors
Yea cash advance in a casino is a big flag. I also think they may be worried about a credit card having been stolen in a casino. It could also be like online porn. For example, amex will not let people buy porn online because there is a very high dispute rate for those transactiona and it was too much of a cost to Amex to have to deal with all the dispiutes. I could see similiar issues with casinos. Not to mention compulsive gamblers betting the farm.
Glad it worked out for you dude! I don't know the majority of the pins to my credit cards. I couldn't draw money out if I wanted to. lol
Simply because I never plan to use them for cash advances.
If it ain't in the bank...I'm not using it.
I'm going to pray for you.

Well I'm far from the only person here who has issues with their cards. The two lenders I've had issues with also give COUNTLESS others issues far bigger then my own. I don't do manufactur spend, I don't spurn rewards (spelling?) - I use cards like they are designed to be used. I use my credit limits to the peak at times, and pay down fast and I rarely do a CA.
So thanks ! But yes I agree -- casinos are a bad idea. Now that I underwent a thorough review with LENDING Risk and she thoroughly noted my account, I should be good for some time according to the rep!! She stated that many who are reviewed to her dept end up with account closures.
Woooooooo!
I had my doubts when first starting to read this thread, I doubted whether you would be shut down just like that. It takes a lot for a CCC to close a card with a hefty AF.
This is, as I think FinStar pointed out, not in your prior behavior, so it's just another notation that's been added to your file, another "acceptable behavior" that you've now got with Chase. To those who are charging in Vegas and worried now about your cards, stop it. You've already crossed whatever concerns your CCC had long ago. No need to worry now.
The reason many others report AA of various kinds is often due to a new "risky behavior" that the lenders are not familiar with. Most common is never allowing balances to report, then suddenly balances have to report, and it spooks the likes of Barclays. Building up your history, in a lot of areas, can help to get the bank algorithms softened up, to accept some types of behaviors. You do have to stay within terms, of course, but as you said, you were in terms for cash advance allowances. Nothing wrong with that, casino or otherwise.
It probably also helps you that you have some insight from other's experience here. It gives you a better perspective when talking with Lending, about what they are looking for. Someone who hasn't read through a lot of AA posts, or apping, or how to get a CLI, may be less able to understand the lock down.
Glad it worked out, thanks for sharing, but like I said, until the bank actually shuts something off, it's just in review, so best to see how it works out for you.
Next time you're in Vegas, take a trip up the hill to Pahrump
and take a CA there at 3:00 am. Might as well set the bar high for risky
behavior tolerance.
Hi all -
Staying at the Venetian (Palazzo) next month. I was planning on putting the hotel stay on my Ritz card. I don't plan on taking any cash advances, simply paying for the room / and other regular purchases within Vegas. Should I be concerned at all?
