I have the same strategy as you. Just different products lines. My goal: Get all the cards I can this year, all to keep long term except for the Credit One and 1st Premier (those are the rebuilders I started with) and just let them age. I'm at 19/24. 16 of those were opened in just 5 months. 0 new accounts for 10 years. No credit history. All paid with debit card. I have all I need now. No more apps. All HPs will drop off by Sept 2018. FICO 8 in April, high 500's in all three, now EQ 677, TU 702, EX 726. So, regardless of all the HPs, credit is on the positive trend. Took multiple re-apps for the higher end cards, hence, the very high HPs.
Other credit factors carry more weight I've noticed.
1) Payment history: 35% (On time, no late payments)
2) Outstanding Debt (Util ratio, I think): 30% (Util ratio: 2%)
3) Length of Credit: 15% (19 mos, AAoA: 7 mos)
4) Pursuit if New Credit: 10% (All HPs since April, EX 51, TU 22, EQ 42)
5) Types of Credit: 10%. (17 credit cards, 1 installment loan, 1 retail card - Home Depot)
Back to your inquiry: GE Capital / Synchrony cards I have? 0
Have you tried any cards from AMEX, Chase, Discover or CapOne? I say, persevere if denied. I tried it my way, and I am happy with the outcome. I believe retail cards are classified differently than credit cards. I'm not sure. They appear to be in different categories in EX credit report.
Good luck !!!
