HP from Amex....

Amex did a hard pull when I was approved. How much will this affect my scores and when will they bounce back?

Re: HP from Amex....

What kind of card did you get approved for?  Is this your first Amex card?

Re: HP from Amex....

Hard pull with approval is par for the course. A hard pull will lower your scores by a couple of points, you'll get these points back after a year. Once the new account shows up on your reports, it'll lower your average age of accounts and that will also lower your score (by how much is impossible to say, depending on your other accounts info). There's no way to recover the points you lose from AAoA loss, you'll just have to be deligent with your credits and all should be well!

edit: if you have other AMEX card(s) before, backdating will help with AAoA!

Starting Score (08/11/11): TU08: 643

Congrats on the approval !!  The FICO score damage from a single inquiry is usually minimal.   In terms of the long term effect, the inquiry will be scored for 1 year.    When your new AMEX account shows on your CRs there is also the possiblity that your AAoA may drop.

Re: HP from Amex....

My oldest account is from 1989, so that shouldn't affect AAofA too much right? Also, my Amex is got is the green card, since there is no "credit limit" how will that impact scores initially, or will it at all?

Re: HP from Amex....

If the OP has credit card debt on other cards, then wouldn't they see a score increase because their utilization went down?

Your oldest account is part of it. You can easily calculate your AAoA, add the age of your accounts and divide it by the number of account you have, and there you have it; if you have lots of credit lines then this'd be really menial =P; you could kinda eye ball it, anything over 5 years is superb IMO.

In newer FICO scoring models, charge cards are not factored in utilization calculation so it wouldn't hurt your score.

No, it's a charge card so it won't help the UT.

It all depends. How many HP's do you have on EX? The new account ding is temporary and will go away after some time.

Hopefully your AAoA won't take too much of a hit, but it really depends on how many accounts are on your CRs.   The AAoA impact of a single card is diluted as the number of accounts on your CRs increases.

And you are correct the Credit Limit will report N/A so the card balance won't be included in your revolving utilization ( except for TU98 ).
