My 18 year old son was recently approved for both the Chase Freedom and AMEX BCE on 2/5.
AMEX letter shows a FICO score of 735(range 300-850), source Experian, dated 2/5. Chase letter states a "credit score" of 754, range 100-990., dated 2/5.
It doesn't state Experian near the score, but earlier shows Experian's address to abtain a copy of the report.
What is the difference in these numbers..what is Chase actually using?
To furher complicate, his scores from credit.com show Exp at 792, EQ at 790, and TU at 687.
Credit Sesame shows 814. The numbers are all over the place.
Is the AMEX FICO score the only meaningful score?
Mabe the Amex was first and he took the hit with the inquiry right away and thats why it was a little lower. As for the others, they are FAKO scores.
Chase is a known user of the Vantage score, although the standard range for this score is 501-990. A 100-990 range may be the credit card enhanced version of the Vantage score, though I don't know for sure.
Regardless of the scoring models your son has great scores! I wish I understood all this stuff at 18, life would have been a bit easier. Congrats to you and your son. Keep up the great work.

FICO is most important scowe which is used by most lenders. But just wondering how much is your sons income that he was approved for the BCE since AMEX verifies Income. Also what does his AAoA and inquires look like,if you don't mind me asking? And oldest trade line and current credit cards? thats pretty impressive being approved for 2 Prime lenders.
^ to answer your questions...income reported was about $12,000, he's a college student, income from summer(maybe fudged a little). AMEX did not verify income. His first card was from USAA($300 cl) May of 2012 when he first turned 18.(turned down everywhere else, no credit history at all) He picked up a Barclays NFL card in Dec($750 cl) . No other credit...EXCEPT I put him as an AU on 4 of my cards since he turned 18.
His new AMEX BCE has a $2000 CL, and Freedom a $2,500. I would say being an AU helped tremendously. I have already put my 16 year old D as AU after seeing the results.
