USAA charges a 3% fee on balance transfers. They also charge a 3% fee on cash advances. This is unhappy.
They do NOT, however, charge any sort of fee for a transfer from a USAA credit card to a USAA checking or savings account, and these transfers are at the same rate as purchases.
SO ... Anyone contemplating doing a balance transfer to a USAA card:
Advance the funds to your USAA checking account, then use that checking account to just pay off the other cards normally. Presto, free balance transfer!
