I have a New Discover It Account . I was wondering when to ask for a CLI . Thanks
It's six months minimum before Discover will even consider a CLI request. I know this because I've had my Discover account for five months, two weeks...

will it be a SP or HP?

That varies. If Discover needs a Hard Pull they will ask you if they can continue and if not it was a soft pull and account review.

What is the best way to do it Online or Call-In ? I refuse to have any more HP's this year and maybe next year too.
I was told by Discover account managers that it's always a hard pull if the customer initiates it. Soft if they do it.

Well I initiated it online and was decline. About two weeks later I get a ring from an analyst who says she can do it for me. She said it would be a soft on Transunion and I got it. Just a few days ago I did it with a chat representative and it was another soft pull approval. Some people have said different accounts are coded to always be a hard inquiry.

Thanks navi. That's great to know
I would just wait. Discover loves to increase my limit every six months. My limit has more than doubled since I got the card in 2011. I never asked for one and I never got another HP.
Discover is 6 months and its an auto CLI
If you are not eligible for a CLI and a its initiated from cutstomer then its a HP
If you are eligible for a CLI then the CLI button appears online on your main page.
