How is the 61 day AMEX time period calculated?

I was approved for my credit cards around September 2nd/3rd.

Yesterday I tried to apply for the 61 day credit limit increase and was told that I wasnt eligible for one in 60 days.

Do they start the clock from time of approval or activation?

Also, do I have to wait 3 months now to try again?

Re: How is the 61 day AMEX time period calculated?

plz try to use the search function, this question gets asked every day or two, it's 61 days from approval date, but most people wait from the activation date. Regardless I wouldn't try at 61 just to be sure, and 63-64

I think it is from the day your account was opened. That could be the day you applied or the days after it.

Sorry, I'm usually one of the first people to say "use the search function" as I too hate seeing the same question posted.

I did though,  and I kept reading conflicting advice.  Some people say its the date of activation, others say its the date of approval.

I think I'll try again in a week, and if not...then I'll try again at the end of the month.

Re: How is the 61 day AMEX time period calculated?

Lmao. Omg. Every time I see this question, someone answers it differently. When I asked it last, someone insisted it was date of activation. Haha whenever mine is about due in a month or so, I'm going to directly ask one of the CSRs or maybe even contact an Exec or Supervisor....and then tell you guys haha.
The op is asking prob bc everyone says s'thing different! Silly :-P

Btw, there's no minimum wait time for clis with Amex. I read a post here that proved as such. Someone was denied the 61 day cli but then tried a month later, and he got it.

You can apply anytime before the 61 day mark, just not a good shot at approval.

@youngandcreditworthy What do you mean there's no minimum wait time. Of course there is. 61 days and then 6 months. But jumping the gun does not reset the clock. Is that what you meant?

Re: How is the 61 day AMEX time period calculated?

Actually, I don't know why I am so sure. Things are changing all the time, but I have not heard if people getting CLI before day 61 or more often than 6 months. Happy to be corrected.

Re: How is the 61 day AMEX time period calculated?

No.. I mean if you get denied a cli, there's no min wait time to request a cli again.. So if you get a cli, yeah you have to wait. Lol I think it'd be silly to reequest/recieve one more often than that anyway. The fact that you can get an initial 3xcli at 61 days is amazingly shocking to me!! Haha :-)

Re: How is the 61 day AMEX time period calculated?

I applied and was immediately denied.

I then chose to electronically recieve my letter from AMEX and it the reason it gave for the denying the CLI was:

"Our bank policy does not permit us to increase the line of credit on your account within sixty days since opening this account."
