From Amex I have always received cards overnight. I think that is amazing as other CCC seem to take 5-7 days to send them out. Chase on the other hand, has to hire a woodworking craftsman to carve out the numbers for my card on a blank, then there is an ex-NASA plastics person they fly in who does the pouring of the card in the mold and then finally they have to bring in a calligraphy artist to add the three digit security number on the back of the card. In other words their cards take forever to come.
that was pretty funny
I think it depends on the card. My blue cash cards have taken 5-7, but I applied for my SPG card on the weekend and received it on Monday.
Maybe if it's a card with an annual fee they overnight it?

@Anonymous So all cards after your 1st with AMEX are overnighted?
All of mine have been and I havent heard of any reports from anyone else saying theirs was USPS. After your a member, Amex is smart enough to know that the sooner you get the card the sooner they get money.
You can call and request zync overnighted... though it would come on a Tues.
