How long to wait to apply?

I need some serious advice. I started rebuilding last August with NFCU when I opened a secured card for $500 (now $1k). I am the au on two other Navy cards, and a capitol one card. I also have a secured USAA card and a Kay jewellers in my name. I want to know how long should I wait before I apply for a unsecured card with them. Should I wait a full yr? The only thing that keeps me hesitant is that I mistakenly paid my car late in January (Santander) and I know that can hurt.my chances. What should I do?
