The AMEX upgrade to Gold as long as you're a card holder happened a couple months ago I believe. I wouldn't be surprised if it remains this way as long as Citi has it too. I've been tempted to try to upgrade mine but I've heard you can only do it after a year of having the base version
Amex changed the policy on the Surpass in November. Now it's Gold for the life of the account.
I think AMEX may have changed their T&C's on the card. It used to be 1 year only gold then after it was tied to spending.

Yes BUT the caveat to this is that it is only good till the end of 2014, meaning not a permanent Platinum perk, after 2014 then what?
I'd prefer not to do another annual fee card if I"m not getting a lot of value out of it. I probably should look at the SPG then...

I'm going to consider it, but I don't know if I stay in hilton enough to get the value. This may be a churnable card for me.
