I only keep one credit card in my wallet which is now my chase card. Used to be my amex, but the rewards are much better on chase. The rest of the cards serve their purpose, but I only take them out when the time is right depending on my purchase. I used to just use my debit card, but realised why not put everything on chase and pay it off each month instead. Amex gets used when buying a new car however.
Loosing my wallet once was enough to keep the rest at home lol
Everyday card: CSP
Buying electronics: Amex Platinum
2 cards out of 12
3/7, or 4/7, depending on the Freedom's rotating categories.
This quarter has me at 3/7, since Freedom has the 5x.
Quicksilver - Pretty much everything that doesn't fit a category
Freedom - Restaurants and Lowes
JCP - Well, JCP. And maybe Rite-Aid and CVS here and there since I don't shop at JCP as much anymore, but I like the Platinum status.
TD is pretty much not worth it now, so I'm planning on using it every 6 months to keep activity
Shell doesn't fit me anymore either, but my family uses it here and there for activity
Sapphire is only when Freedom doesn't have 5x on restaurants
And AMEX I use for travel purchases of $100+ or for their offers
Once I'm in the clear for loans this year (student and possibly auto), I'm likely going to apply for the Discover IT, to begin my journey on accumulating a stellar line up
I will offer a different viewpoint than others have. I have many cards, each with their own purpose:. While I have a few "go to" cards (AmEx Blue Cash, Chase Biz Freedom), I use a lot of cards for their special discounts or rewards. I split my Amazon purchases between a personal Visa, a business Visa, and their store card for those purchases over $150.
I would say 4/20 are "core" cards for me (plus 2 BBRs). But I have balances on a whopping 15 cards due to revolving 0% APRs or PIF min spends. I have the BCE but I don't like AMEX (horrible CSRs), so I use my BoA 1-2-3 rewards affinity card instead
Pretty much what others have said:
Cash+ cell / restaurants
Freedom varies
BoA 1-2-3 gas/groc
QS general spend
I'm actually using all 7.
BOFA-Gas only, or If I need to go to the grocery store every now and then.
Citi-Amazon, Food, school stuff, phone bill.
Discover-Gahd, I hate this category, but I use it for my everyday purchases since I'm not using it for Home improvement lol
Chase Freedom-Food for this Quarter only
Southwest Airlines-SW flights or large purchases that I can't use for Amex.
BCE-back up gas card, occasional usage for grocery and cheap random purchases (under 10$).
SPG- SPG stays, large purchases, basically everything else.
I take it that you only like using those "heavy cards"

I wouldn't really call the CSP or UA Club truly heavy cards.
They fit my spending needs, and if they didn't I wouldn't use them. I CBF rotating half a dozen or more cards, so I get quite a bit of value from this combination.

I'm tracking--I use my UA Club and Marriott the most (prolly PC this to Ritz, or close it and open a Ritz in a year or so)...DW uses her CSP as her everyday spender. Great combo for us United/Marriott guys/gals
