I know we don't like CapOne but...

I have had 2 CapOne accounts for a while now - 9 years for one, 7 for the other, both with smaller CLs - $500 and $1100.  And while my APR on them is higher than I like, both were actually significantly lower than my WaMu.

I called the other day and asked if they could merge the accounts and the gal I spoke with said they would (keeping the older account, which also has the lower APR).

This leaves me with a couple of questions: the card currently has an AF and the APR is 16.32%. I'd like to upgrade to something with no AF and a lower APR, if possible. Does CapOne upgrade? And if so, should I ask right after they merge the accounts or should I wait a while? Maybe work on using it/paying it off/increasing the CL? Currently my util is pretty high on the 2 of them (soon to be one), I'm awaiting my BT checks from my CU CC to pay it/them off. I wasn't planning on contacting CapOne until after I had gotten my util down.

I'm still pretty new to all of this, but I'm loving it!

Tess

Re: I know we don't like CapOne but...

always call 800-889-9939 to get account specialist

I recently got notice my rate was 8.9->15.9 called three times no avail, then I call on for a separate matter, and asked if I've got notice about my new terms, I said yes and I've called to complained, and she gave me 9.9%

but no they don't upgrade from my first three calls I've learned my no AF 2K card is a starter card I've had the card for 3 years

Why not do a balance transfer to a card that reports the credit limit, has a lower interest rate and no AF? I'm not saying close a 9yr old account (unless you have serveral others this old)

That's what I'm planning on doing, as soon as I get my BT checks in the mail! Smiley Very Happy

This one actually is my oldest open TL, which is why I don't want to cancel it - but I would really like to *not* have the AF. At least with merging the two accounts I will get rid of one of the AFs. If I could get them to upgrade it to something with no AF and keep this history it would be nice. As it is, I won't be purchasing anything else on the card except something small every so often.
