I forgot, I have 14 inqs and has not applied for any credit cards since last November 2016.
Well that was only a whopping two months ago, lol. Those inquiries can affect your approval odds for the next 10 months, but after a year they won't matter.
Have you gone to Chase's prequal page to see if the Freedom or Freedom Unlimited come up for you? That's their lowest-tier card you can get a prequal for.
Check out Citi, Amex and Capital One for prequalified offers as well.
OP, this is my experience:
1. Pre-approvals come from sub-prime to lure you into the trap - you are wise enough to avoid them.
2. Pre-approvals come when you have certain pre-established relationships (Credit Unions, Wells Fargo, etc) and in good standing - look forward to these/invest in these
3. Pre-approvals with your credit score and report being healthy - these are the Prime lenders. You'll have to work hard and discipline not to have too many inquiries, keep the util and less than 15% and good AAoA.
Chase gets spooky with 5+ inquiries and mid to low scores...

Thank you, I'll give it a try in March, because I want my scores to go a bit more higher.
FYI, the prequalifer uses the last promotional inquiry Chase made on your credit reports. A new promotional inquiry will not be generated when you put your information into it. When you go to do it in March, it might contain information that is a couple of months old still.
