You can purchase points?????@Anonymous to 50,000 a calendar year, @$12.50/1000 points, or 1.25 cents per point.
Is that the same thing as something that I came across that said 'pay with cash and points' or something like that? I did some research on the Marriott card last weekend and was sad when I saw that any of the hotels I was looking at were more points/higher tires than the tiers that you get free nights at. Until you build up extra points by spending, that's how you could book at a higher tier then?
No, cash and points is different.
Say you need 50,000 points for your 6 night stay, 10000 points a night. (5th night free) You only have 40,000 points. You can use cash and points and use 40,000 points for your first 4 nights, get the 5th night free, and then pay cash for the 6th night.
Same idea for 2,3,4, 7,8,9 and so on stays.
Obviously, you wont do this on a 5 night stay since the 5th night is free (same on a 10 night stay and so on) but it's a good benefit. If you do this over the phone you can have your cash night at a AAA rate or something like that. Can't mix a code and cash and points online.

Wyndham just killed their program and rebuilt it from the ground up and it's looking fantastic so far.

Marriott Rewards Premier has 50k offer, one free night at a cat 1-4 then 1-5 after a year, good little perk with this card I found is that if you must cancel and you've booked a non cancellation room and you cant make it, they refund you up to 5k. How far will the 50k get me? Any additional perks I haven't found that I could take advantage of? $85 AF
Huh, what? Where did you get that from?
I generally do not recommend hotel cards unless you stay frequently at the chain. The earnings don't make sense otherwise. So if you're not staying frequently, then make sure you can get good use of the bonus points and certs. The Marriott 1-5 certs are only good for 6 months. Quite honestly, I struggle to use them, as most my personal stays are in hotels in higher categories. Or if there is a lower category hotel I want to stay at, the rate is often so low it makes more sense to pay for and earn points or mega bonus stays or qualifying nights.
Here ar the Marriott point required at each category

I also have not found anything that says anything about them reimbursing you for a non-refundable stay.
Also, you can get up to 70k with a secure message if you ask nicely.

Ok ... got it ... standard Visa Signature Trip Insurance.

Unfortunately the "if you must cancel" part is pretty limiting. Not your general work or life happened and I need to cancel type thing is covered.

+1
It needs to be one of the outlined reasons in the guide to benefits.
