If I use my Venture miles for credit will I loose $$?

Hey everyone I will be receiving my venture bonus pretty soon, I was wondering if it is a bad idea to use it for a statement credit instead of travel? $400 would be a nice little statement credit but then I started thinking if I'm going to lose money? Does anyone know if they take part of your money away? Thank You :-)

they half it if its used for anything but travel. so that $400 would be $200 in statement credits.

Of course you will lose some of the value of the sign up bonus. It's $400 towards travel related expenses and gift cards. Miles redeemed for a statement credit are essentially halved. Definitely one of the biggest drawbacks of the Venture.

Hmmm.  Let's see, $400 toward travel related charges or $200 statement credit...  Oh, the choices!  I think I'll go flush the rest of the $$$ in the toilet! 

Ultimately, your points/money OP so it's your decision.

Did you get the Venture for travel? Any plans coming up? I would wait to redeem on travel, being a travel card, so that you get full credit.

those points/miles build up fast.  i save mine for hotel stays during summer vacation time :-)
