Is Discover More a prime card like Chase Freedom?

I want to add to my stable of prime cards and I am considering a Discover More. I'm not sure if I will use it often unless their 5% categories are different from my Chase Freedom but it should increase my credit limit regardless. Is the Discover More along the lines of Chase Freedom and AMEX BCE?

It's my understanding that Chase Freedom and Discover More are very similar cards.  Yes Discover is for sure what I would consider a prime card.

Discover is the prime of all prime cards.  No other card allows you to send money to friends and family and get cashover at the purchase rate.  Yes, Discover is prime and they are the best.

IMO Discover is more prime than Chase.

Yes it's prime. If you have a Chase Freedom already i wouldn't bother with a Discover More. Freedom is the better card IMO.

~~In my wallet: Best Buy $7500, Dell Preferred $5500, Chase Freedom $3500, Barclays NFL Extra Points $3300, Sears $2800, CapOne Platinum $2000, Kohls $1500, Bill Me Later $1015, Target $200

I hear ya, but still gotta get me a Discover More card!!! :smileylol: I recently got CLI'd to 18k on my Chase Freedom. Once my CR's get updated, I will apply for a Discover More card. Hopefully, Discover will match or beat 18k.

Yes, it's a prime card. They will both grow with you and offer good limits and have the potential to lower your Apr in the future. I just got discover. They topped my Chase limit so they will get some love now.

Re: Is Discover More a prime card like Chase Freedom?

Back in the day when I was starting out and had excellent credit - Discover was fairly new and it was exceptionally hard to get; it was THE prime card. While the likes of Citi and Amex were crashing my mailbox with applications - Discover was the only card for which I was turned down 2 or 3 times - before finally getting an approval by way of a student app.

Now that I am finally back in Discover's good graces after 8 years kicked to the curb after BK, I cannot imagine that anything has changed about its prime status - aside from having further solidified its position.

I have not looked at these other banks, so I cannot compare, but make no mistake about it - Discover is top-class and their benefits and customer service reflects this.

Apparently, they have broadened their new accounts pool by approving applicants with scores under 700 or who are at the tail end of rebuilding efforts, so it might look like with all of the approvals it is just an average card, but that is far from the truth.
