Is 'member since' ever optional?

I like my card having a date in the future for "expires," but I hate having a date in the past for "member since." So many cards include this now. It's annoying. It ages the card and it ages me, and I like my cards being shiny new exciting things, not reminders of age. Is "member since" ever optional?

I had an Auto Club membership a few years ago when I was an AU on my dad's membership that showed "Member Since 1982" or something... being I was born in '80 that always gave me a chuckle.

Ever since I got my own card on my own account the date isn't anywhere nearly as impressive but I don't mind it one bit! It would be nice if they gave you some kind of "loyal customer reward" though.
