Is this normal?

I have a car loan through BB&T, and Friday I received a call and voice mail from someone who said she was the head teller at the local branch and wanted to offer me their CC. Is this normal? I don't think I have ever heard of a CC offer coming over the phone. Is my approval rate going to be better if I were to accept the offer??

Re: Is this normal?

I don't see why a head teller would be calling with CC offers. The whole thing sounds fishy to me anyway, but then I've always believed a little paranoia can be a good thing.

Please do not give out your information over the phone like that.

Sound like a scam.

Re: Is this normal?

Yes, its  not certainly unheard of. If you look in the auto loan section, there are a few posts where auto loans were approved as well as a CC. Creditors pull your CR and gets  you approved for an auto loan and are sometimes able to use the same CR pull to pre-approve or even sometimes approve you for a CC or another lending product. Just to be safe, I would probably just verify the phone number to make sure she is who she said she is, or even head out to the branch if you are interested in the CC.

Re: Is this normal?

I was thinking the same thing. Just thought it was odd, That's why I asked. Although the phone # she called from which is the same # she told me to call is the same # for my local branch per their web site info.

Re: Is this normal?

Id run into the branch on Monday and GET IT if it is true... Teller seems odd to call to your house, but I know they can get those offers while helping you in branch.... but not only.... Long ago I was with Fifth Third before moving to BBT for all my accounts and tellers at 5/3 call sheets with people that were "pre-Approved" I think really actually "Approved" and they would call when they were slow.

Re: Is this normal?

There was a BB&T scam that was running around about the same time as the B of A email scam so I would go into the branch and ask them before I give ANY info over the phone.

Re: Is this normal?

its called proactive outreach.

yes we do this

but personally i have not done this unless i know the customer and they know me.

boy that would be an akaward conversation.

like any other products or banks we also send out letters

and follow up with all customers new or old.

as for the card.

go in branch and say the person called usually they get a perk if they get a card app/ approval

that is i guess if you like the person lol.

make sure to ask if they will run your credit though.

in our sytems there is two answers. depending on how you got to the pre approval.

kind of like the first one is you hit certain things on a list and the other you hit all of them and your pre approved and this is how much were giving you.

ive seen the second go from 1k to 35k.
