Is this situation an Amex back-dating possibility?

Is this situation an Amex back-dating possibility?

My father had an Amex Gold personal and business back in 1990.  He closed them out soon after in good standing.

Fast forward to today and his credit is in ruins and is living off of cash.

I was thinking about putting him down as an AU on my Amex PR Gold and just have him pay me what he charges on it every month.

So my question is, if I add an AU who was originally a member from 1990, do I somehow magically get backdated as well?

When he receives his AU card, will it show member since 1990?

I know the backdating works if it was the other way around, but what about in this case?

No, his history will show your date for account opening. It only works the other way around to best of my knowledge.

Sorry =(

Re: Is this situation an Amex back-dating possibility?

I understand he's your dad, but there are two statements that would give me serious pause:

" his credit is in ruins and is living off of cash."

"I was thinking about putting him down as an AU on my Amex PR Gold and just have him pay me what he charges on it every month."

Just my thoughts. And, as previously mentioned, this is a backwards scenario for backdating. Wont work.

Re: Is this situation an Amex back-dating possibility?

I knew someone would bring this up.

His credit is in ruins due to some bad business decisions during the economic crash.  He had more business credit than personal credit, and everything started reporting to his personal because he PG'd them all.  Before that, his credit was spotless.  Life happens.

His business has recovered and he's back to making mid 6 figure income again.

It's just that he has to pay everything in cash or use his check card because he doesn't have access to any credit cards.

I also live with him on his 50,000 sq. ft. house which has been paid.

I don't think he's going to skip out on his AU card. Smiley Wink
