Their aplication states that I should be free of BK before filling it out. I can't say that. What I can say is I am blimish free in any way in 7.5 years since the BK. My credit reports read no other defects BUT the "public record" of 2002. I have 2 major cards and 3 store cards. Zero balance on any. No inquiries in 18 months. Paid off one car and always pay a month in advance the third year into my second car after BK. Live in same place 5 years. Same job 8 years at 50k. No debt but rent and $263 car payment.

Can I? Can I hah? I want my first real card. If not this one, which one? It's time.

What are your current scores?

You can see by my signature that I haven't pulled my score since early '08 but much has improved in 2 years. Should be in the 710-730 range I expect.

PenFed

Navy FCU

360 FCU

Crap1

HSBC

Alliant

All of them have approved me for unsecured credit with a BK listed.  USBank and USAA weren't so nice to me.

Thanks Jausanka - that's a great list.

Can you tell us how long post filing or post discharge you were when you were approved?  And was it BK13 or 7?

My BK7 was discharged 12/04.

Approval dates:

PenFed (One Joint, one solo) 6/09 ($10k original, $10k now joint, $3k original, $3k now on solo)

Navy FCU (Solo) 10/09 ($14k original, $14k now)

360 FCU (joint) 06/09 ($10k original, $10k now)

Crap1 (solo) 01/06  (started at $300 post-BK, has grown incrementally to $3k)

HSBC (solo) 01/06 (Had household $300, Orchard $300, Best Buy $300 originally, combined, close BB and Orchard, CLI to $2k)

Alliant (solo) 06/09 ($2k original, $2k still)

USAA, USBank, Addison, and Nationwide all rejected me in the last half of 2009.

Also have cards from Juniper/Barclays (original $500, $1500 now) and Merrick ($1000 original, $2k ending) bank from 2006, but wouldn't recommend them to anyone else.

None of these cards are secured, and none have an AF.  Merrick tried to impose an AF, then agreed to waive it, but pissed me off enough that I closed the account anyway in late 2009 after 3.5 years ($2k credit line, and wasn't needed anymore for util).

DW scores on the joint apps were in the high 600's, and mine were roughly equivalent.  The 2006 ones were all with mid to high 500's scores. Currently stuck just under 700 scores.

*edited to add solo CL on PenFed*

Here are cards I got with BK:  Cap One ,  HSBC and Orchard, CCCU, Merrick Bank. WAMU (now Chase

The best one is CCCU.  Chase has done nothing since they took over except raise my rate.  Cap One went from a starter card to a rewards card.

My FICO went from 698 to 788 when my BK fell off in 1999.    Started getting offers around 2001.  Also had a first premier and juniper which are closed.

Many Credit Unions would welcome you with open arms.

Re: It's finally time. Chase Freedom maybe??!!

Thanks tx. The more I think about it, the more attractive my local Credit Union looks. There is a Nevada Federal Credit Union about 800 yards from here and they are healthy as a horse. I'm told I can land a Platinum VISA with an APR or %8.25 to %11.25. That might be the last credit card I'll ever need.
I hate handing the Hooters card to anybody and Juniper, even at 12.9% (was 7.9% just a couple months ago) will probably run scared after I land the VISA and my biggest trade line is at a place I'll probably never shop at again and I'll probably loose that card for non-use.
Credit union I think it is. I'll let ya'll know how it turns out.
