I applied for my 1st credit card through JC Penny I was declined online and called the back door credit phone # Sacrony Bank and was made aware that there is a black out period after a BK is filed of 24 months (Discharged in May 2014) and you will be automatically denied if you are in the 24 month window post bankruptcy. I hope this is a help to someone. I did alot of research to find who was willing to grant credit post BK and JC Penny is not a BK friendly creditor for at least 24 months. Hope this finds someone well

Thanks for sharing that useful Data Point.
I'm sure some members might find that blackout info useful to them.

Sorry about your denial. Some members have been able to get back in with SyncB in less than 2 years post BK, but some don't. However, even if they were IIB, they are willing to offer you new credit if your profile supports it.
Absolutely I believe the same may apply to GE money bank. I thought that GE was the issuer of the JCP CC.
GE Capital Retail Bank is now Synchrony

Bummer on the decline ... I have seen quite a few conversations here with folks with rebuilder cards a short time past BK. Your experience and info re: JCP will definitely help someone for sure.
