What the heck??? So it's basically a Thank You Preferred card with the guaranteed APR reduction. That sucks. I wonder if they'll allow PCs

Very fascinating...sorry, not to go OT, but if Citi ever hypothetically offered the option in the future of a PC to the devalued version of the Forward, I just might be possibly interested, if only for the APR reduction feature alone...

Unlikely. The Forward isn't coming back for applications (as it seems), it's just being changed for existing users. So doubt PCs would be an option.

Anyway, the guaranteed APR reduction, IIRC, was more of a gimmick than anything substantial. There's a maximum drop of 2% unless that has changed. You can get more than that with Citi by just asking and seeing if you're eligible, so it doesn't seem like a real standout feature.

Still 2% reduction and like you said it is not anything to write home about.  The lowest rate I can get from Citi is 13.49% on both Forward and DC and I use both of them heavily.  This means my rate on the Forward card is 11.49% and they won't go any lower.  Meanwhile I was able to get lower rates with Sallie Mae and BCE even though I use them way less.  Forward is useless now but we all knew this day would come, it was a great run.

I actually have 10.99% on my Citi Forward which is pretty low.  Not that I've ever paid interest on it.

Sigh. Anyone able to get around "not being able" to do a product change "because the Forward is discontinued"? The card is pitiful now IMO and I would at least rather have the Double Cash. Seems like a garbage excuse.

Wait, they're not letting us product change?

They were actually going to get MORE of my business out of this because the vast majority of my purchases right now are on Capital One at 1.5%.  I was gonna product change to Double Cash for the 2% but I guess not.  So much for my business...

Re: June 4th is a sad day for Citibank

Just chatted with Citi, they said in June I could change to a different card without an application but with a new card number.  They guy claimed it would not show up as a new card on my credit report but I'm skeptical, since I think when I did this in the past with Bank of America, my card number stayed the same.

Anyone know about this?

What they guy told you is correct, it can have a new number and keep the history. BoA did that for me when I did a PC from their Amex to Visa sig.

By that you mean it would not be a new card on my credit report though right?  I don't even mind a hard pull just would like this card to stay as "open since 2011" and not a new account.

I got mine Dec 2012, and I guess I just got it in time.

So about 3 years from discontinued to nerf, still seems very generous!  (And of course sad...)  Wonder how the Sallie Mae will compare.

I guess that there must have been enough Forward cards out there for them to bother, wasn't sure if that was the case

I've read a lot about the coveted Citi Forward in the past two years on this forum. it looks like you guys had a nice long run!

Regarding Sallie Mae:  I'm secretly hoping that the Barclaycard hate (strong dislike) continues on this forum and more people start canceling their Sallie Mae cards. If so, that combined with the low caps, maybe Barclays will leave this card untouched for quite a while longer.  Smiley LOL

Also, it might be a good idea to rename the title of this thread.  With the current title, you can't tell this thread is about the Forward unless you open it.  I think that might be why people keep starting new threads regarding this upcoming change.

Just got the dreaded letter myself. Drats. Well not like I was particularly fond of TYP and used them to their max potential. I always used Select and Credit. Not sure if I wanna PC or keep it how it is for nostalgia purposes. My sister uses it as an AU card anyway
