Hi everyone. I just received my Capital One CC a few days ago & I charged gas on it the day before yesterday & want to pay it off today (someone told me to use it & pay before the statement prints so that I will have a $0 balance reported to the CRA)....well I went online to pay it & there is still $0 due & no pending transactions but I can see from the available credit that some credit has been used. Should I pay it now or wait until it posts to my account? (Assuming it will post tonight because I know with gas purchases it may take a few days to show). Will it make a difference?
I'm just trying to find the best ways to use my card & pay it right away so that they can see I am making timely payments.
You could try to pay it now. I'm not sure if it will take a payment without anything being posted yet. If it takes the payment, great. If it won't let you put it through yet, wait till the purchase posts.
It will take about 2 weeks for your new card to be setup.

You cant pay more than you owe, and you cant make an online payment until the item has posted to the account because this is your first payment and the system stil thinks you don't owe anything.. Pay it as soon as it is an available option online.. OR, you can pay it over the phone the second it posts to your account since you may not be able to pay it online since you dont have a minimum payment yet..
The last I remember, Cap One will let you pay your balance plus 10% (or maybe it's 5%). Since you do not have a balance, it will not let you pay at this time. You are fine to wait until the charge posts though. Being it's your first charge, you probably have about a month until your statement generates.
Thanks for the response. I'm going to wait another day or 2 & if it does not post, I will call customer service & see if they are able to take the payment.
That makes sense, thanks. I'm going to just wait then. I'll just monitor it daily & as soon as it posts I will take care of it immediately.
The alternative is to set up your bank's bill pay (which can likely pay CapitalOne via ACH) and force the payment from that end.
Good idea! That's a great way to make sure everything is paid on time as well....I may as well utilize it since I have that option.
This pretty much happens with all of my cards. I typically don't see new entries for about a 5 days to a week but the available balance shows immediately, usually rounded off to the nearest dollar.
Citi wouldn't even let me pay anything the first month until my first statement hit.
