I have a Cap1 No Hassle Cash Rewards card with a 750 limit. I run a BUNCH of charges through it a month (1400+ last month), and PIF several times a month to stay under my CL. I did receive a CS increase two months ago, but I decided to give them a call and explain how much I use the card in the hopes that they might give me a further CLI. (I guess I was feeling lucky after OB starting to give out increases, however tiny). Anyway, the CSR put through a request, which was rejected -- which with Cap1's reputation for responding to CLI requests, this was not a huge surprise. But, what the CSR then told me left me shaking my head... she said that just because there is no offer for me at this time, that doesn't mean that there won't be in the future -- she said they're somewhat random, they "come and go." Just like that. There they are, and then they're gone. Poof. So, I'm sitting here visualizing these elusive CLI offers as if there were soap bubbles... better grab yours before it's gone... ooops, too late... gone.
Seriously, though... I like Cap1. They do have a good product available for someone with my history who is rebuilding. But c'mon, there really should be at least SOME rhyme or reason to their CLI policy.
There, vent over.

Agreed. It's also crummy that one of the things the advertise with their card is travel insurance. The problem is, I can't even buy one plane ticket to Hawaii (the only place I travel, and every year at that) with it, let alone one for my wife and daughter also. Maybe the insurance is one of the reasons they don't allow higher limits on these cards. They don't want someone to actually use it.

I had a similar experience a few months ago. I even spoke to a "senior account specialist" who basically agreed with everything I said and told me "I'm sorry there's nothing available for you at this time, maybe other companies will notice how well you're doing with this account."
Sure enough, I gotten offers for credit from Chase and Discover and these are my primary cards now. Thanks a lot Cap 1.

That's too bad, but at least you have rewards! I have 2 "step" cards and called CS to see if one or both could be changed to a rewards card, and they said that neither card "qualifies for the upgrade" to a rewards card. Yet, I've read here that SO many people have rewards cards, even with the really low limits, like mine. Doesn't make a lick of sense to me. They told me the same thing they told you about how I might qualify in the future and offers would show up online. She also said that I could app for a new card w/rewards. Just what I want: a hard inquiry on all 3 CRs and another card with a $500 or $300 limit.

I have had my Cap 1 card since 2008 with a CL of $1100. I had until recently one 30 day late that Cap one removed from my CR's. The late was in 2009. Aart from that, the card was always PIF every month. 3 times a year I call for a CLI; no joy. I called back in May and same thing; the CSR doesnt see anything in my profile and i always get the same message. Your account will be reviewed every 6 month for CLI. Seriously, whose buttocks do I have to kiss? 3 years and no CLI

Well, I received a letter from Cap1 explaining their decision to deny my CLI request:
The reason(s) for our decision are as follows:
Present credit limit on current account has not been maintained for at least six months
This was the only reason listed. I can understand and respect that. It simply makes sense for CLIs to be based on something other than "offers come and go at random." I'll try again in a few more months and see what happens.
